Joanne Butcher is chief executive of the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ), the industry's charity that delivers the premier training scheme for journalists in the UK. Joanne has led the NCTJ during a decade of radical changes to the organisation, its qualifications and accreditation scheme, and she has developed its charitable activities, notably the Journalism Diversity Fund and its role in the Community News Project. Joanne began her career in marketing and moved into her first training role at the Newspaper Society. She then joined the Periodical Publishers Association as director of the Periodicals Training Council. Before joining the NCTJ, Joanne was chief executive of the Publishing National Training Organisation.
